Mapping Creativity

£290.00

My starting point for this work was a photograph of the less-than-tidy table in my home studio, a place where I explore ideas, experiment and where I make art. The table is large, and I often find I’m using different sections of it for different activities, some areas for clean tasks and other areas for mucky or wet tasks. My table always tells the story of what is going on creatively.

At this time, there were large books on the table that I had used to raise the height of my iPad for the increasingly frequent Zoom calls and a smaller art related book that I was reading.

A framed piece of textile art lies face down, the corners protected with blue foam, perhaps ready to store until the ability to exhibit becomes an option again. Pencil shavings in the empty mascarpone tub and the open box of paints suggest that design work had recently taken place. The dye stains on the drop cloth show traces of previous projects as does the charcoal dust.

The table also leaves clues to how I work. I’m happy to move from reading books that might fuel future projects, to finishing work and to developing the design for the next piece. Often leaving everything in place until I return to it. If I have a tidy table it usually means someone is about to visit!

If you have any questions about the work, then please contact me and I’ll be pleased to answer them.
